Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA) Elects New President: Attorney Kennth M. Suggs
July 28, 2005 Baltimore,
Maryland - Janet, Jenner & Suggs, LLC announces the appointment of Kenneth
M. Suggs as the President of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA).
ATLA is the world’s largest trial bar with a broad-based, international
coalition of more than 60,000 attorney, law professor, paralegal, and law student
members worldwide. Established in 1946, the Association works to safeguard victims'
rights, promote injury prevention, strengthen the civil justice system through
education, and support the communication of information that is critical to the
public’s health and safety. During his
career of more than 30 years, Ken has remained a tireless champion of consumer
rights. His distinguished record of service to clients, the legal profession and
our community demonstrates his commitment to the civil justice system. Ken has
previously held many ATLA offices including vice president, secretary, treasurer,
and parliamentarian. He is also the former president of the South Carolina Trial
Lawyers Association. Ken’s many public service activities include supporting
the Carolina Sunshine Children, Inc., City Year Columbia, South Carolina Center
for Capital Litigation, South Carolina Appleseed Legal Justice Center and St.
Lawrence Place. Ken graduated from Clemson University
with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 1968 and then served four years in the
United States Navy. During that time, he was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon,
Navy Achievement Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal,
and an award from the government of South Vietnam, the Vietnamese Honor Medal.
After the service, Ken went on to earn his Juris Doctorate from the University
of South Carolina School of Law in 1975 and began practicing trial law. After
his induction, Ken said, “It is truly an honor to be elected by those whom
I hold in such high esteem. Each of us joined the ATLA because we share a vision
of civil justice at its best – a system that is equally protective, fair,
efficient, accessible and understandable. While the assault on the civil justice
system continues to make the news, all members of ATLA will continue to do their
part to communicate the benefits of the civil justice system and promote the many
instances where safety reforms followed litigation.” Ken
is a principal of the law firm of Janet, Jenner & Suggs, LLC, a national firm
based in Baltimore, Maryland and Columbia, South Carolina. The firm has expanded
the rights of the injured by ensuring justice at the trial court level, and by
changing laws at the appellate and legislative levels. Ken’s law firm members
are enormously proud of his accomplishments and are proud to have him as a leader
of the firm. TOP |
